The Animal Welfare Officer skill set describes the skills and knowledge required to manage an animal welfare team.

By successfully completing the Animal Welfare Officer Skill Set, you will achieve competence in the following units:
  • AMPLSK201 Apply animal welfare and handling requirements
  • AMPLSK401 Oversee humane handling of animals.
DURATION:  2 consecutive 1 day online face to face workshops using Microsoft Teams, listed below, practice on the job followed by an observation assessment by our Assessor. All training and assessment is expected to be completed within a 6 week period. You must be observed by the assessor in a live-work environment handling and monitoring animal movement. This observation may need to take place via a real-time video call (eg. Facetime or Microsoft Teams). 

ENTRY REQUIREMENT: A Language, Literacy and Numeracy diagnostic tool (Skills Check) must be completed and submitted at least five (5) days before the workshop date. 

Please note: company approval may be required should a real time video call be needed for the observation assessment.
If enrolments for this course do not meet the minimum required (5), bookings will be automatically transferred to the next available course. Notification will be given 10 days before the initial course date.

Introduction:
The Animal Welfare Officer training is designed to equip staff with the competencies necessary to implement, supervise, review, audit or monitor processes and procedures that impact on animal welfare at slaughtering establishments.

The role of those trained as an Animal Welfare Officer will vary but will cover tasks such as:
  • Supervising livestock
  • Supervising slaughter floor activities
  • Monitoring the plant’s compliance with animal welfare standards and regulatory requirements
  • Developing and reviewing workplace animal welfare / handling SOPs and work instructions

Target Audience:
Company employees performing these roles are generally the:
  • Lairage manager or head stockman
  • Slaughter floor supervisors and leading hands
  • QA monitors
  • QA managers.

Learning Methods:
This course will be delivered by a highly skilled, industry experienced, qualified and industry-current facilitator.
 
The learning and assessment activity will include:
  •  2 x 1 day online face to face training sessions using Microsoft Teams
  • workplace activities to practice back in your own workplace prior to the final assessment
Assessment will include:
  • Question and Answer quizzes (completed in the virtual session)
  • Workplace observation with our Assessor onsite or, where we are unable to conduct this onsite, live Observation using a mobile device and a video conferencing tool (e.g. Apple Facetime or Microsoft Teams)   
  • Supervisor Report completed by your direct supervisor.
